A-Levels

Lower & Upper Sixth Courses

The college offers a broad range of A-level courses which can be taken over one or two years. We offer a range of options in terms of syllabus and examination dates, and will be happy to discuss individual requirements at interview.

Two Year Courses

Our two year A-level courses are suited to students who are either continuing at the college after GCSE or to those students who may be changing school after year 11. The slightly slower pace of a two year course program gives the student the opportunity to explore a subject in greater depth and the time to consolidate ideas.

Most students will study four 'AS' levels in the lower sixth year, of which three subjects are carried forward to A-level in the second year.

One Year Courses

These self-contained courses cover the complete syllabus in one year. These are designed for students who are retaking over a full year or for those with previous experience of A-level work who wish to start a new subject. Courses are structured so that students sit their AS-level exams in January and the remaining A2 modules in June.

Short Retake Courses

Intensive one year and short retake courses are offered in most arts and science subjects for examination in January and June. Our courses are designed to provide a thorough review of the subject theory. Particular attention is given to helping students to develop the necessary exam skills and to building confidence.

Each year we take a small number resit students. Most come from local schools. Many already have respectable grades and resit in order to widen their choice of university or to re-apply to highly competitive degree courses such as Medicine or Law.

The courses are intensive with a demanding workload and a high level of commitment is required.

AS Examinations

For students who may wish add an additional subject, we offer a wide range of AS-level courses, either free-standing or leading to full A-level. Such courses can be useful to students who may wish to gain additional UCAS points, or for those who are unable to study a chosen subject at school.
